Ever since human evolution has begun and history has recorded itself, masturbation has been considered a holy act - at least then. There are figures in the temples depicting women masturbating. However, most of the ancient depictions are of male masturbation.

In ancient Egyptian mythology, God Atum was believed to create the universe by his ejaculation after masturbating, hence it is considered as a magical act. The same goes for Sumerian and Greek mythology. Then what on earth happened in the between? Why today, in most parts/sectors of the world, masturbation is still taboo?

Do you want to touch yourself and get intimidated? Maybe, just explore your body and find out your erogenous points or, just gift yourself one hot orgasm as a treat? - Masturbation is the key but are you holding back? Is the door locked to explore sexual pleasures? It is time to knock these questions off, address the elephant in the room and dig deep! (Ladies, pun intended)

Addressing the biggest elephant - how and when did masturbation turn magically into the act of a sinner? The answer to this is quite simple - the establishment of orthodox beliefs

A bunch of human beings designed with limited belief systems thought to create a policy and shun the ancient scripts. They then regarded masturbation as an act of sexual pleasure which is outside of God’s design.

For them, sex is the only valid form of pleasure, that too to give birth and let their religion thrive.

Masturbation was then fully established as a sin and any human being caught in the act of self-pleasure is punished or abandoned by that particular religious sector.

This further spread fears to anyone who would think of self-pleasure. Although many people continued their journey of masturbation secretively

Results -

This whole act of making masturbation a sin, numbs people on a different level. Self-pleasure was denied and along with it, their sexual preferences too were suppressed.

If you don’t know how you like it in the bed, you will never have it and live your life feeling sexually unsatisfied no matter how many partners you sleep with. This suppressed mainly women, and most of them lived in denial. Many religious beliefs stick to only missionary while sex!

Now, imagine that.

A study states that women belonging to this belief system have been brainwashed in such a way that for them self pleasure revolves around guilt, shame and fear. Hence at least 63% of women die without experiencing self-pleasure. That is insane!

Men too are victims of this, although the majority of them secretly perform self pleasures, some suppress and undermine men who do it. Thus projecting their limited beliefs onto others and constraining them from having fun in their life.

Masturbation comes with several health benefits. Doctors encourage self-pleasure via masturbation to many people going through body shaming, insecurity issues. Self-love is the key, to begin with. Masturbation has ample plus points, including -

  • Relaxation booster - Helps you feel more relaxed and loosen up your body

  • Self-pleasure equals sleep pleasure. You sleep well the day you masturbate.

  • Releases endorphins in your brain giving you feelings of happiness and satisfaction.

  • The scale of stress reduces

  • Self-esteem and body insecurity issues are lower. A little love and touch are all it takes.

Anything too much is too bad. Be it food, alcohol, or even masturbation. Masturbation has self-love and pleasure benefits - agreed. But excessively doing it causes your skin to get rough and you might just normalize it to a point where you don't feel sexually active at all - like ever.

You don't want this now, do you? People who excessively masturbate come up with different symptoms. One woman reported bruises around her vagina through her own fingernails, another man reported his skin getting blisters due to excess masturbation.

Self-love should not turn into self-harm or addiction in that case. Be cautious and know the boundaries of your body. A few side effects of these are -

  • It causes fatigue

  • You feel naturally weak and tired all the time

  • Early ejaculation in men

  • Injury to penis/vagina

  • Slight issues in the vision too.

  • Lower back pain issues.

  • Testicular pain in men

 Conclusion -

Masturbation is healthy, self-love and self-pleasure is a necessity. Learn to touch your body and love yourself. Know the limits and listen to your body rather than orthodox systems.
